In modern web development, JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is the foundational data format for RESTful APIs, cloud microservices, and mobile backends.

However, raw API payloads are frequently delivered in minified, single-line strings that are difficult to inspect or debug. Conversely, manually editing JSON often introduces subtle syntax errors like trailing commas or unquoted keys.

UtilityHub's JSON Formatter & Validator provides a fast, client-side workstation for formatting and validating JSON payloads.

Common JSON Syntax Errors

1. Trailing Commas: While JavaScript objects permit trailing commas, strict JSON RFC 8259 syntax forbids them:

{"name": "Dev", "active": true,} ❌ SyntaxError: Unexpected token }

2. Single Quotes: JSON keys and string values must strictly use double quotation marks ("). Single quotes (') cause immediate syntax failure.

3. Unquoted Keys: Keys in JSON must always be wrapped in double quotes ({"id": 1}).

4. Unescaped Special Characters: Newlines, tabs, and quotation marks within strings must be properly escaped (\n, \t, \").

UtilityHub JSON Tool Features

  • Beautify (2 Spaces / 4 Spaces): Restores clean indentation and aligned object hierarchies.
  • Line-Specific Error Highlighting: Pinpoints the exact line and character where a bracket or quotation is missing.
  • Production Minification: Strips extraneous whitespace and line breaks to minimize network payload size.
  • Complete Data Confidentiality: Bearer tokens, private API keys, and sensitive customer records are parsed locally in your browser and never transmitted over the network.
